There is an abundance of white sugar in foods. In addition to providing no health benefits at all, white sugar can also lead to longer-term health problems. There are several natural and healthy sweeteners that are a great alternative to white sugar.

Not only will they sweeten your recipes, but they also provide countless health benefits. They are also the most highly recommended sweeteners for people with diabetes and overweight. Do you know the healthy sweeteners molasses, stevia, syrup or primal sugar?

Natural and healthy sweeteners

Brown sugar or cane sugar

Brown sugar is one of the best-known options and the easiest to find, as it is sold in supermarkets. Unlike white sugar, this is not refined sugar and therefore contains vitamins (vitamin A, B1, B2, etc.) and natural minerals from sugar cane or sugar beet.

It also depends on the process, as some brands sell white sugar with a light brown color, which is actually white sugar with a little bit of molasses extract added to it.

We recommend using brown sugar in dessert and sweet recipes as it is cheaper and healthier. But preferably you should use the following healthy sweeteners to sweeten.

primordial sugar

Primal sugar is obtained by evaporating the juices of cane sugar. It is widely used in Latin America. Like honey, it has possible balsamic and expectorant effects  and therefore can be an ideal medicinal drug.

Drink it with warm water and lemon when you have a cold, flu, sore throat etc. It also contains 50 times more minerals than refined sugar, such as calcium, potassium, magnesium, copper, iron and phosphorus.

Honey

Besides being 25 times sweeter than sugar, honey also has a delicious taste and is very nutritious. It is known as a natural antibiotic.

It has innumerable properties: it is potentially antiseptic, tonic, sedative, laxative, diuretic and antibacterial. It is recommended to consume one teaspoon per day, on its own or mixed with a juice, yogurt or infusion.

It is important to consume raw organic honey so that you really get all its properties. It is also interesting to know that you can apply a little bit of honey if you are injured or have a burn to aid in the healing process.

Molasses

Molasses or cane honey is obtained from cane sugar and is called “honey” because it is similar to bee honey, except that it generally has a darker color and stronger flavor.

The darker the color, the more properties it contains. It is rich in minerals and vitamins and therefore it is recommended for athletes, children and people with anemia, exhaustion, stress etc.

Stevia

Stevia is one of the wonders of nature. Originally from Paraguay, this plant has the ability to sweeten much more than sugar and offers several health benefits. It can help lower blood pressure a little, improve your dental health and circulation, it can aid in digestion, etc.

Stevia has no calories and is therefore ideal for those following weight loss diets. It is also excellent for diabetic individuals. It does not alter blood sugar levels, but it has also been proven to help regulate these levels naturally by drinking three infusions of stevia a day.

Drink it to take advantage of its powdered properties or consume it as a pure extract or by eating the leaves of the plant. If you want to use it to sweeten without the characteristic taste of the plant, which is similar to licorice, you can buy a purified extract (transparent in color).

While not as therapeutic, it will sweeten without the added calories and harmful effects of sugar or artificial sweeteners, such as aspartame.

agave nectar

Agave nectar or syrup is an extract of a type of cactus and has a similar texture to honey and a sweet, but mild taste. This sweetener may also be ideal for diabetics, as long as it is consumed in moderation, as it has a low glycemic index.

Like the sweeteners mentioned earlier, this one also has several beneficial properties. Just make sure it’s processed raw and not at high temperatures. It is ideal for sweetening infusions, juices, smoothies etc. and can also replace sugar in many recipes.

Remember that you should check with your doctor first to see if you suffer from certain illnesses before continuously consuming these sweeteners.
